FAQ

Why are you doing this?

Basically just to see if I can. I want to discover what it means to do extraordinary things. I’m not sure why we were put on this planet, if indeed there is a purpose or a Creator that placed us here, but after giving it about as much concentrated attention as I’m capable of, I’ve decided that this moment, this life, this now is all we’ve got. Every moment is unique and irreplaceable. Once experienced, it’s gone forever. I want my life, maybe not to count for anything, but to have at least been packed, stuffed as full of great experiences as I can get it. It all begins with I wonder if I…

Have you ever done anything like this before?

I ran a marathon once. I did the marathon with The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society’s Team in Training program – June 2007. This seemed like the next step. Makes you wonder about the staircase, doesn’t it?

Aren’t you worried that you’ll fail?

Not really. What’s the quote? Try again. Fail again. Fail better.

Why do you call yourself the Iron Wimp?

It sounded funny! I’m just wasn’t really comfortable with the whole “Iron Man” thing. I have this vision of me at the event sticking my toe in the water and saying, “This water’s too cold. Can you heat up the lake?” Not to mention, if I did an event in California or Hawaii or someplace where you have to swim in the ocean, I’d probably spend the whole time in the water worrying about sharks. Whatever! Anyway, I’m still working my way into this whole endurance athlete thing. It’s a little like a new shirt that I’ve just bought that I’m really not sure I like. I’m looking at it in my mental mirror and wondering if I can wear this? Does this fit me?
