Exercise Log for 05/11/09. Lazy pool day.
Monday (Day 123)
Swam (30 minutes)
Temp: 60º F
RPE: 7
Weight: 175
Scott in the pool, so I talked to him for a while instead of hitting it hard, I meant to get in more time than just 30 minutes. Finally got moving though, 200 free / 200 kick sets. Good swim, once I got started. Enjoying the Vita Mix. I’ve been doing at least 3 smoothies a day since I’ve bought it. My diet’s really changed. Hopefully, it will make a difference in my health. Discovered a substitute for the PB sandwiches which I can no longer have – I’m gluten free now since the Doc said I have Celiac Disease (gluten allergy). I just smear the PB on top of a rice cake – quick easy protein. Good before and after the swim. One of these days, I’m going to make the Rice Cakes (Francois?) that I got the recipe for at the TAT meeting,
Ingredients
1 Cup Sushi Rice
3 eggs
Bacon or ham
Choose other ingredients as desired
Parmesan Cheese
Salt
Soy Sauce
Honey
Fruit
Directions:
Cook rice, scramble eggs, cook bacon if needed. Mix cooked rice, eggs, bacon in pan. Add chosen ingredients (sweet or savory). Press mixture into firm layer. Cut square portions. Wrap in tin foil. Ride and Eat.

Exercise Log for 02/7/09. Again with the run thing.
Saturday (Day 75)
Swam (70ish min.)
Ran (4.35 miles)
CU: 22
Temp: 70º F
RPE: 8/7
Weight: 175
Swim felt like it was going to kill me. Switched up the strokes ( added back and breast) and the breast almost killed me for some reason. Still, I need to practice it for sighting buoys. I just did the back for variety. Did the overarm stroke rather than the side sculling I used to use. It was surprisingly easy – all this free style I’ve been doing, translates well for some reason. Anyway, after I finished my swim, I thought I was going to hurl. Went to a family meeting, drank my protein drink and had a salad and recovered pretty well. Took off on the run and it went well. It feels good to be out there again. Came home and it felt like someone hammered my calves. Retraining my stride is a big challenge. I don’t really keep time, but it feels like I’m moving faster. It’ll be interesting to see how the soccer scrimmage tomorrow goes. Soccer season starts again. This year we’ve started a website – Tulsa Arsenal. Just farting around, trying to have fun with it. Trash talking, fake sports stories, stats, etc.

Food Cost
Since I started training, my food cost has obviously gone up. I generally eat like a horse anymore. Recently I commented at a small dinner party that I thought groceries were more expensive, but I didn’t have any facts or figures to back me up. I did a little research (very little) and found the the Center for Nutrition Policy and Promotion website. While there I discovered that food costs have increased – between this January and the last, food costs have risen more than 7%. Ouch! Here’s a link to the section of the site where I got my info.
http://www.cnpp.usda.gov/USDAFoodCost-Home.htm (I selected Liberal plan – see Liberal is not always a bad thing!) for January in 2007/2008 and compared the cost of goods. If you selected the Thrifty plan, the cost of goods has risen more than 9%. Double ouch!
While playing around I found this site too – Recipe Search. Type in a fruit or vegetable, select the meal, and press “Search”. I typed “Apple Juice” (left over from an oatmeal experiment my sister recommended) and soup (just to be difficult) and it came back with two matches, neither of which sounded bad – “Buttnut and Ginger” and “Santa Fe Chilled Nectarine Soup”.
