Summer’s here. Had some house guests. Tulsa Tough was in town so I put up some bike racers from the Mountain Khakis team. Good guys, a lot of fun. Like hanging around pros. Just listening to them makes a huge difference in my understanding of bike racing. They kicked ass. Took a 1st place and a 2nd. Took home over ten grand in prize money. One of the guys on the team was going to use his winnings for laser hair removal for his fiance. Nice and practical.
No more bikini waxes. Anyway, their winning was really good when you consider the quality of teams that show up. Tulsa puts up a lot of money and a lot of great teams come to the party. It’s a lot of fun to watch. You can get up close and personal too. My sis and I were on the final downhill before the finish line at the final race and, at one point, she got sweat on her from the pack as it screamed by. She was like, “OK, this is too close” and made us move farther back. It’s a rush. If you like Mountain Khakis clothing, you can use the code “cyclemk” on the MK website (www.mountainkhakis.com) and it will give you 10% off – and 50% of your purchase will go to support the team.
My whole computer network collapsed so I couldn’t get to the training log for a while, but I was still working out. Swam and ran. Lousy swim today, but it set me up for doing the run. Told Kathleen at the Y that I was going out, so I had to. Having a hard time keeping up with the training. What sounds good in the morning, feels impossible by the evening. Whine, whine, whine. But I did what Friel said, “Just start. If you can’t go on after five minutes, quit. But start.” And actually my run turned out to be the best one yet, time wise. Go figure.
